3G Motivates the Growth of Cell Phone Game Market of China
With the wide adoption of the 3rd generation mobile telecommunication technology, more and more people in China begin to access the Internet through their cell phones. The cell phone game market is doomed to benefit from the fast growing number of cell phone users in China.
According to the estimation, the revenue of China’s cell phone game market will approach to 2.7 billion Yuan this year, nearly double last year’s and development trend of the industry will be even more optimistic next year. Once the prediction come true, China’s cell phone game market will shake off the embarrassing situation and step into the fast growing period.
Li Jie, officer of China Software Industry Association expressed his concerns and dissatisfaction with today’s cell phone game market as its actual market size is far less than predicted. Despite that China has world’s largest number of cell phone users, the size of its cell phone game market only accounts for 10% of that of PC-based Internet game market. Statistics shows that only one percent of mobile phone users has ever downloaded mobile phone games from the Internet.
3G adoption and the fast growing number of mobile Internet users bring high expectation on this industry. Journalist found that tens of small and medium companies dedicating for the research & development of cell phone games suddenly appeared on 2009 China Cell Phone Game Industry Forum held in Beijing November 20.
However, social recognition of cell phone game market still needs to be improved as companies dedicating for the research & development of cell phone games has many difficulties in getting venture capital, bank loans as well as other kinds of external investment.
