Baidu and Google Strengthened Their Leadership Position
According to 2009 Annual Report on China Search Engine Market conducted by Analysys International, the overall value of China’s search engine market has exceeded RMB 4.66 billion Yuan in the first three quarters of 2008, with an increase of 75.8% comparing to the same period of last year. The share of search engine advertising among all kinds of Internet advertising is progressively increasing.
According to the report, Baidu and Guge/Google China are two dominators in China’s searching market. The market share of Baidu has increased to 62.9% from 59.3% of last year; while Guge/Google China has increased to 26.9% from last year’s 23.4%.
Baidu and Google China gained market share mainly from Yahoo China. The market share for Yahoo China has dropped to 5.9% from last year’s 11%.
The market shares for un-mainstream Chinese search engines such as Zhongsou, Youdao, Sougou and etc changed little.
